A case was filed with Wari police station over the murder of a ward-level Jubo League leader in the capital.
Moyna Begum, the mother of the deceased ward-31 Jubo League general secretary, Abdul Manna, filed the case accusing seven to eight people on Thursday afternoon.
Police said they have not made much progress in the case and were unable to arrest any in connection with it.
However, police earlier detained for questioning a Jubo League member of the ward, Mohammad Rony, who is Shahjalal and Manna's business partner. But police are yet to bring in the only eyewitness of the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner of Wari Zone Sayeed Nurul Islam said they had questioned many people and learned some important information regarding the murder, which he did not disclose due to the ongoing investigation.
As for the motive behind the murder, he said many reasons are under consideration. Manna, known as Kana Manna at Kamrangirchar, was brought up in Keraniganj, South Keraniganj and Kamrangirchar, and later joined Jubo League politics in the area.
Perhaps his past life is connected with his murder, said the DC. Police earlier said, as Manna had been involved in the yaba trade, he could have been killed over a factional clash based on that trade.
Raisul Uddin Ahammed Tutul, president of the ward Jubo League, said if the only eyewitness of the case, Al Amin, is arrested, all information about the murder will come to light. He said Manna had bought some land in Keraniganj and the young Al-Amin was also from the area.
The boy went missing after the shootout took place.
Inspector (Investigation) of Wari police station Santosh Kumar Paul said the two detainees might be shown arrested if their involvement in the murder can be found.
He said the detained were also made accused in the case.
On Tuesday night, Manna was shot twice in the head and abdomen while on the street near his Hatkhola residence. Later, he succumbed to his injuries at Apollo hospital on Wednesday morning.
Manna used to run his own drugstore in the medicine market near Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.
