Ekattor TV contempt hearing likely tomorrow

The Ekattor TV authorities yesterday submitted to the Supreme Court the leaked audio conversation between two apex court judges, video footages of a talk show and a news aired on August 10 by the private satellite channel as per a court order.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam submitted those to the two-member Appellate Division bench of Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana and Justice Hasan Foez Siddiqui. Hearing on the contempt charge is likely to be held tomorrow.

The four-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha asked for the footages on August 11.

It would examine whether the channel committed any contempt of court by broadcasting the news and conducting the programme on a sub-judice matter, the attorney general told reporters after the order.

At that time, the court was holding hearing on another contempt charge against the daily Janakantha.
