Four members of police have been killed when a train hit a police van at Dhelapir rail crossing under Syedpur upazila in Nilpahamari.
The deceased are Syedpur police station constables Shamsul Haque, Maidul Islam, Shariful Islam and Faruk Hossain.
Nine others were also injured in the incident that took place around 11pm Friday. They were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Syedpur police station Sub-Inspector Abdus Shahid said a police van plunged into a canal after a Dhaka-bound train hit it at Dhelapir rail crossing.
"Constable Shamsul died on the spot while three others died at hospital," said the SI.
