SCF urges govt not to arrange burial ceremonies for war criminals

Sector Commanders Forum urged the government not to assist in organising funeral and burial ceremonies of convicted war criminals in the country.

They also demanded that the government setup seven more war crimes tribunals for the seven divisions in the country immediately in order to accelerate the process of war crimes trial.

The demands were made at a round-table discussion organised by Sector Commanders Forum (SCF) held yesterday afternoon at the National Press Club in the capital.

The forum’s leader Lt Gn (Rtd) Harun-ar-Rashid, famous media personality Kamal Lohani, advocate Rana Dasgupta, daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamol Dutta, former additional IGP Nurul Alam addressed the round-table among others. The forum’s chairman Maj Gen (Rtd) KM Shafiullah presided over the discussion.

Kamal Lohani said: “There are no graves for war criminals anywhere in the world. This information should be disseminated throughout the country.”

“Jamaat-e-Islami must be banned and their financial institutions must be seized and distributed to the victims of the Liberation War immediately,” he added.

KM Shafiullah said the trial of war criminals is not up to expectations. The process of trial must be accelerated.

Lt Gn (Rtd) Harun-ar-Rashid said: “We don’t want any graves of convicted war criminals in our soil. In this regard the government has to come forward.”

Maj Gen (Rtd) AK Md Ali Shikdar presented the keynote paper in the round-table discussion. 

In his written paper he said: “The party of war criminals Jamaat do not accept Bangladesh yet. They take every chance to neglect the country and its soul.”
