The latest reviews of the newly released Fantastic Four reboot has been less than stellar. In fact, Fox Studios went out there way to hide the film as much as possible until its initial release. It was almost as if they were hiding it from total failure. Director Josh Trank went to the media claiming it was the studio’s fault for the poor reviews.
Trank tweeted, “A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would’ve received great reviews. You’ll probably never see it. That’s reality though.” He, since then, has deleted the Tweet.
It was clear for a while that there was plenty of head-butting between the director and the studio execs. Reportedly, things got so bad that the producers (Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker) had to step in to finish the film, with re-shoots just three months before opening. This does not fair well for Trank, as he was slated to direct the second Star Wars stand-alone project. Kinberg, who is producing the film, has already expressed his displeasure with Trank to Kathleen Kennedy and the team at Lucasfilm. In turn, Trank left the Star Wars project earlier in the year.
The production of this film seemed to be plagued from day one. Fantastic Four’s verdict looks to be a universal one for the critics. It seemed like it was completely thrown and squeezed together in a hurry. After the first act of the movie, it went completely downhill and into the gutter. Who knows if this will greatly affect the Marvel Universe or not. Only time will tell.
