An alleged ringleader of robbers has been killed in a "gunfight" with police at Burumaria village in Pangsha upazila early Friday.
The deceased is Abdus Sobhan, 49, hailed from Lakkhandia village of Majhpara union in the upazila.
Pangsha police station Sub-Inspector Nani Gopal Sarkar said police arrested the Sobhan around 10pm on Thursday.
Later a team of police along with Sobhan conducted a drive in Burumaria village around 1:30am to recover firearms.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, associates of Sobhan opened fire to police, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a "gunfight".
Sobhan received bullet wounds during the "gunfight".
"He was taken to Sadar hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead," said the SI.
Police recovered one foreign made revolver, eight rounds of bullets, two one-shutter guns and five rounds of cartridges from the spot.
