No matter how dirty and quirky hippies are, we all loved their funky flower crowns, the smiley faces and of course, their beaded curtains. You can now easily bring back this 60’s classic to add some artistry and colour to your room, and it doesn't involve taking a ride on the Tardis.
What you need:
Acrylic or wooden beads of different shapes, sizes and colours
String or ribbon
Scissors
Pompoms, decorative flowers or adornments (optional)
What to do:
Measure your valance or doorway and cut a piece of string or ribbon slightly larger than that to hang the curtain. Make sure your string is strong enough to support the curtain.
Cut vertical lengths of the string in your desirable length for your curtains.
Tie a firm knot on one side of your string and string the beads. You can also add a few adornments for some extra flair. You can even add more strings if you want your curtain to look more flamboyant or add a few ones if you want the minimalistic look.
Firmly knot the other end of the string to keep the beads in place and then attach them to your previously cut vertical string by making knots.
Once your curtain looks complete, hang them across making sure the string is taut and enjoy your little punch of hippiness!
You can personalise these curtains by experimenting with different shapes and designs. Go for an arch-like silhouette to add a touch of some oomph to your doorway and make a royal. Or if you have too much time to spare or just like to challenge yourself, try for more complicated patterns.
