Nazmul Hasan, a 13-year-old class seven student at Union Polli Unnayan Institute of Wazirpur, was hospitalised after being beaten by a teacher at the school compound.
The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon during school hours.
Headmaster Md Rezaul Kabir said the school committee has already issued a show cause notice to the accused teacher, Md Shahin, who has gone on leave.
The headmaster said a three-member probe committee, headed by assistant headmaster Md Siddikur Rahman, managing committee member Mozammel Sarkar and the school’s teacher-representative Zamal Hosen, was formed Wednesday.
The committee was asked to submit a report within the next two working days.
Police visited the scene, and till this report, no case was lodged in this connection, said Wazirpur police station officer-in-charge Nurul Islam.
Monowar Hossain, the victim‘s classmate, said he and Nazmul went out of the classroom at about 12:30pm on Tuesday to drink water.
After returning to class, Nazmul discovered that someone had tied up his schoolbag.
Then he and some other students began shouting and also demanding the room’s fan be repaired.
Hearing the shouts, Md Shahin, a teacher from a neighbouring class, rushed there and started beating Nazmul.
At one point, the boy fell down in the school corridor, but the teacher continued to beat him.
Other teachers rushed to the scene to rescue Nazmul from the grip of the angry teacher, and on giving him first-aid, sent him home.
The boy, however, was admitted to the nearby Banaripara upazila health complex that night after his physical condition deteriorated with severe pain and high temperature, said his parents Hemayet Uddin and Nargis Begum.
Dr Ziaul Ahsan, the on-duty doctor at the health complex, said Nazmul was suffering from high fever due to the beating.
Beauty Gharami, his class teacher, also acknowledged the facts.
After hearing this news, officials of the Banaripara and Uzirpur police stations visited the hospital and took the statements of the students and teachers involved in this incident.
