The internet and social media, as well as newspapers and electronic media, have contributed to changing society in the global age, said Dr Wayne Wanta yesterday at a lecture commemorating the anniversary of the Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Department.
“Facebook and Twitter among social media have contributed the most in changing society and running our daily lives,” he said.
Dr Wanta, professor of the Department of Journalism at University of Florida, USA, made these remarks as the keynote speaker in his lecture on “The Changing Effects of the News Media” held at the RC Majumder Auditorium of DU.
The DU department had hosted the anniversary lecture yesterday morning to mark its 53rd Department Day. In his speech, Dr Wanta addressed media agenda, public agenda, and agenda of issues alongside the rules of media and social media to set the agendum.
He also spoke about rules of social media in politics and societies across the world.
In his speech as chief guest, DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said the journalism sector is growing day by day.
