A Rajshahi University student has been electrocuted at a picnic boat at Halti-Beel area under Naldanga upazila in the district of Natote.
The deceased was identified as Jahidul Islam, a student of geography department of the university. Jahidul hailed from Suzanagar of Pabna.
Two more students of the university sustained burn injuries at the same picnic boat.
They are Boishakhi Khatun of Bagatipara upazila of Natore district and Ripon Hossain of Panchagar. They were also the students of geography department.
Nazibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Naldanga police station said a group of students of geography department of RU came for a picnic at Halti-Beel area early Tuesday.
During boat journey in the Halti-Beel, the three students got up on the roof of the boat and started dancing.
At one stage, they rolled with an electric wire at around 12.30pm when the boat was crossing the area.
The fellow-students rushed them at Natore Sadar hospital with the help of locals where the attending doctor declared Jahidul dead.
Abdul Kalam Azad, Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of sadar hospital, said it will take time to improve the condition of the burnt students.
Meanwhile, one of them was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
