The body of a Bangladeshi migrant, who died in a Malaysian jail two months ago, will arrive in Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Abdul Rashid, 45, hailed from Narsingdi district, died in a Balantic Detention Centre in Malaysia on May 26, said Abul Kashed, deceased's brother.
He told the Dhaka Tribune that Abdul went to Malaysia on a boat in the month of March of this year. On his arrival, Malaysian police arrested him and sent him to jail.
“The group that was arrested along with him returned to Bangladesh on June 17.”
On way to Malasia, Rashid last contacted with his family in the month of April and informed that two traffickers –Jamil and Fatema – were beating him for ransom of Tk3-4 lakh, he added.
Later, the family paid the money, said Abul Kashed.
No post mortem was done in Malaysia. In the death certificate it was mentioned that the cause of death is “pending laboratory analysis (BID)”.
KARAM ASIA Berhad and Bhalobhasi Bangladesh, a Bangladeshi community organisation in Malaysia, are assisting to send back his body to home while Biman Bangladesh Airlines will carry his body free of cost.
