An alleged ringleader of robbers has been killed in a "gunfight" with police at Rajnagar of Meherpur.
The deceased is Miarul Islam, 35, son of Imam Ali of sadar upazila.
Five members of police were also injured in the incident.
Police recovered hand bombs, arms and ammunition from the spot.
Meherpur police station OC Ahsan Habib said Miarul was arrested on Saturday night. "Police conducted a raid taking Miarul with them to recover arms when the members of his gang fired on the law enforcers."
In retaliation, police fired back and then the robbers fled the scene.
"Miarul was rounded with bullet while trying to flee. He was taken to Meherpur General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead," said the OC.
He said Miarul was accused in 10 cases including murder.
