A Gazipur court has sentenced a man to death for killing wife at Sreepur in the district.
The court also fined the convict, Shamim Ahmed, 28, Tk10,000.
Gazipur District and Sessions' Judge AKM Enamul Haque pronounced the verdict on Thursday morning.
The court's Inspector Rabiul Islam said Shamim used to torture his wife Champa Aktar, 20, for dowry. "He suffocated Champa to death at his room on January 5, 2011."
Champa's father Dulal Mia filed a case with Sreepur police station in connection with the murder.
Sreepur police station SI Motaleb Mia, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet in the court on March 24 in the same year.
