Four people have been killed as an engine-run boat capsized in the Chheta river under Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria.
The deceased are Abdul Kahhar, 60, imam of a local mosque in Dobajail village, Shireen Akhter, 6, daughter of Ismail Mia, Fatema Akhter, 40, wife of Shiraj Mia, and their 18-month-old daughter Shefali Akhter.
Sarail OC Ali Ershad said: “The boat capsized while heading to Aruyail Bazar, with some 100 passengers on board on Thursday morning.”
He said five people have gone missing while 10 others are injured in the incident.
Aruyail Union Chairman Mizanur Rahman said a rescue mission is being conducted for the people who are missing in the capsize.
