Cyclone Komen may strike by afternoon 

The Cyclonic Storm "Komen" over Northeast Bay and adjoining Bangladesh coast has moved slightly northeastwards and it likely to move in a North-Easterly direction and may cross Chittagong coast by noon or this afternoon, says a special weather bulletin of the Meteorological department.

Loading, unloading suspended at outer anchorage 

Loading and unloading of goods at outer anchorage of Chittagong Port have remained suspended following danger singnal 7 in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar. But Loading and unloading of goods at jetty and terminal have remained limited, said Zafar Alam, a member of Chittagong port administration.

Shibir leader held while making bomb in capital 

Police have arrested a Chhatra Shibir leader while making bombs and recovered explosives from his possession from capital's Khilkhet area. Mohammad Imran Hossain, 20, the general secretary of Shibir's Khilkhet unit, was arrested from Khilkhet's Lamapara area early Thursday. 

Tk13.25 lakh foreign currencies seized at airport 

Customs Intelligence officials have detained a person with foreign currencies worth around Tk13.25 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (SIA) in the capital. Md Al Mamun, of Comilla, was detained at Boarding Bridge 6. He was taking the currencies to Kuala Lumpur by an Air Asia flight Wednesday midnight.

Half of online world uses Facebook 

Half the world's estimated online population now check into social networking giant Facebook at least once a month. Facebook said the number of people who check into the social network at least monthly grew 13% to 1.49 billion in the three months to the end of June.

India executes Mumbai bomb plotter 

India has executed Yakub Memon, the man convicted of financing the deadly 1993 Mumbai bombings, the Maharashtra state government has confirmed. Memon was hanged at a prison in Nagpur in the western state.

Has MH370 been found? 

Malaysia is "almost certain" that plane debris found on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean is from a Boeing 777, the deputy transport minister said on Thursday, heightening the possibility it could be wreckage from missing Flight MH370.
