Welcoming the verdict, Gonojagoron Moncho yesterday demanded the immediate execution of the verdict against Chittagong’s war-time terror, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
After the immediate reaction, Moncho spokesperson Imran H Sarker expressed satisfaction with the Appellate Division of Supreme Court verdict upholding the death sentence of SQ Chowdhury.
He said: “We cancelled the victory procession to show respect to the court, as it directed not to express any reaction after the verdict.”
He added that Moncho would hold mass sit-ins every Friday around 4pm to demand the immediate execution of the Salauddin and Mujahid verdicts.
Earlier, while Moncho leaders and activists had tried to bring out the rally, police interrupted them, leading Moncho to cancel the rally.
The activists had started a sit-in from Friday at Shahbagh intersection calling on the court to uphold the death penalty of BNP leader Salauddin for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
On October 1, 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal 1 had sentenced him to death for wartime offences.
