Annisul announces Tk1,600cr DNCC budget for FY16

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has proposed a Tk1,601.95 crore budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

The budget is almost double the size of the revised budget for the previous fiscal year, which was Tk803.19 crore, while the proposed budget for FY2014-15 was Tk2,041.87 crore.

The first DNCC mayor, Annisul Huq, made the announcement at Uttara Community Centre in the capital yesterday afternoon. The corporation’s Chief Executive Officer BM Enamul Haque and senior officials also attended the function.

During his announcement, Annisul said: “This year, the budget will be financed by an expected Tk476 crore development assistance from the government, private sectors, public private partnerships and foreign finance.

“The DNCC expects to raise the remaining amount from holding taxes and rent.”

Tk1,144.01 crore of the allocation will be spent on development.

DNCC expects to raise Tk882.15 crore from revenue while the revenue expenditure will be Tk310.15 crore.

Apart from this, DNCC expects to earn taxes and revenue from sources including holdings, trade licences, advertisements, rickshaw licences, markets and community centres.

The allocations will be spent on the maintenance and development of roads, drains, footpaths, hospitals, markets, bus terminals, public toilets and libraries, among others.

The rest of the budget will be for the city corporation’s environmental development, health sector, construction of staff quarters, community centres and housing facilities for cleaners and other employees.

“We have already started our five-year mission. This budget will be spent on implementing our election manifesto to make Dhaka a green and clean city,” Annisul said.

The mayor urged the councillors to discover all of the problems in their specific area or ward, which would be helpful in getting the government’s financial support for the development sector.

Meanwhile, while speaking with journalists, Mayor Annisul Huq said the present tenure is his first and last respective post in Dhaka North City Corporation.

“I have no interest in joining the race of the next city polls,” he said.

He, however, did not mention the reason, but just said the sector was not suitable for him.

Annisul was elected mayor as the ruling Awami League-backed candidate in the city polls held on April 28. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina selected Annisul as the mayoral candidate.
