SQ Chowdhury's appeal verdict Wednesday

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Wednesday on an appeal filed by BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, challenging his death penalty.

The four-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha will pronounce the verdict at 9am.

The three other judges of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Hasan Foez Siddique.

On July 7, the bench fixed July 27 for delivering its verdict on an appeal filed by the BNP leader, challenging his death penalty awarded for committing genocide and systematic killings during the Liberation War in 1971.

The Supreme Court began hearing on Salauddin's appeal against on June 16.

On October 1, 2013, the ICT-1 found Salauddin guilty of nine of the 23 charges of committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War of 1971.

It awarded him death penalty for four charges, 20 years in jail for three charges and five years in jail for two other charges.

On October 29, 2013, Salauddin appealed to the SC against the verdict seeking acquittal of all charges.
