New police recruits to take on intensive anti-cyber crime training

Police high-ups yesterday afternoon decided to provide newly-appointed police officers with thorough anti-cyber crime training during their compulsory training period after joining the force.

Previously, recruits were given introductory knowledge about the crime during training.

The decision was taken at a meeting of senior police officials chaired by Inspector General of police AKM Shahidul Haque at police headquarters.

During the meeting, he said, besides violent crimes, police have to deal with cyber crimes that have been increasing rapidly.

He said police have been providing services using information communications technology and intended to launch an online GD (general diary) process soon. Besides, to handle foreign law enforcement agencies, police also have to use the media.

Many police officials and officers have shown tremendous success in handling cyber-related crimes. Others should also have awareness of such crimes, he added.

At present, a cyber crime course is being run at Rajarbagh Police Line, and very soon one will be included in the training at Sarda Police Academy, he also said.

Additional IGP (Admin) Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional IGP (Finance and Development) Md Abul Kashem and Additional IGP (HRM) Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury also attended the meeting.

According to police headquarters, some 9,373 newly-appointed police officers in the fourth tier of its appointment procedure by police first received the training. The 50,000 police officers scheduled to be appointed shortly will also come under the procedure.
