A group of battery-run easy bike drivers has put a barricade on Baroitali area of the Dhaka-Barisal highway demanding a halt to repeated harassment of local bus helpers to them.
The stalemate continued for about two hours starting from 8am yesterday and police brought the situation under control, said Sindiaghat police outpost ASI Abdul Barek.
Due to the barricade, long tailback appeared on both sides of the busy highway creating immense suffering to the commuters.
Sources said there was a ban on the plying of easy bikes from Batikamari to Baroitali and local bus workers on Saturday prevented some of those seeing the violation of restriction.
The easy bike drivers imposed the barricade suddenly in the morning through leaving their six vehicles sporadically on the highway.
Muksudpur-Baroitola Bus Minibus Owners’ Samity General Secretary Abul Kalam Azad acknowledged the incident, saying a meeting was called in the upazila parishad building in the evening to solve the problem, where the UNO, local politicians and they were supposed to attend.
