Heavy rainfall likely in next couple of days

The country is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next couple of days, while the Met Office has warned that the downpours might also trigger landslides in the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.

In a warning yesterday, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said because of the active monsoon over Bangladesh, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely occur at places over Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions during 24 hours from Friday 10am.

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions,” according to the Met Office forecast.

The country might also continue to experience heavy rainfall up until Monday, said BMD Director Shah Alam.

The intermittent rain may continue until the end of this month, Shah Alam added.

The Met Office also said there might be flood in north, mid-north, or north-east of Bangladesh by the end of the month due to the continuous rainfall over the month.
