Train derails in Sirajganj

A Dhaka-bound train from Sirajganj has derailed in Mahmudpur Mahalla area of the district town on Tuesday morning.

However, no casualty was reported from the accident although it created massive panic among the passengers.

The derailment took place around 10:45am while the 700-passenger capacity train was on the way to the capital.

When contacted, Sirajganj Railway police station OC Kamal Hossain said: “The wheels of guard boggie of Sirajganj Express have displaced from rail tracks within minutes after leaving Sirajganj Bazar Station. None was injured though there was panic among the passengers centring the accident.”

They have already informed Pakshi department of Western Railway to send a salvage train, the OC continued.

There were about 1,000 passengers as people started returning to capital after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr along with their kith and kin.

Later, the train left for Dhaka leaving the derailed guard boggie behind.
