A Dhaka court has again asked Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit report of further investigation in a case filed over the death of popular film actor Shahriar Chowdhury Imon, commonly known as Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Day passed the order yesterday and set the submission deadline on September 15 as RAB failed to submit the probe report before the court on the scheduled date.
Earlier on April 12, another Dhaka court directed RAB to reinvestigate the case in response to a no-confidence petition filed by Salman’s mother Nilufar Chowdhury.
Nilufar filed the petition before the court rejecting a judicial probe report that said no evidence had been found of the actor being killed and opined that Salman Shah committed suicide.
Earlier, Salman’s mother filed a petition with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka on December 21 last year seeking time to submit the “no-confidence” petition against the judicial probe report.
On September 6, 1996, the entire country was shocked when popular actor Salman Shah’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his residence. His father Kamaruddin Chowdhury filed an unnatural death case with Ramna Police Station, which he later changed into a murder case alleging that his son had been murdered.
After completion of investigation on November 3, 1997, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a final report before the court mentioning that Salman Shah committed suicide.
Challenging the report, Salman’s father filed a revision case. Following the case on May 19, 2003, a Dhaka court directed to conduct a judicial probe in the case.
Eleven years later, on August 3 last year, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque submitted the judicial probe report before the court saying that he had found no evidence of the actor being killed, and that Salman had committed suicide.
