5 die as truck plunges into roadside pond

Of the deceased, four have been identified as Zillur Rahman, Jahirul Islam of Sirajganj and Aminul Islam of Lalpur uapzila and Raju. Lalpur police OC Abu Obayed said: “A truck plunged into a roadside pond after hitting a human haulier on Ishwardi-Bagha road around 11am, leaving one dead on the spot.” He said: “Three others died at Lalpur Upazila Health Complex. One of the injured has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.” Later, he died at the hospital. In Sunamganj, two were killed after being hit by a minibus on the Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway in Borokapon area in Chhatok upazila around 11:30am. The deceased were identified as Nadim, 10, son of Samsu Miah, and Kachmala Begum, 40, wife of Mochhok Ali, residents of Kamrangi village of the upazila. Nur Hossain, sub-inspector of Jauyabazar Police camp, said the Sunamganj-bound speeding minibus from Sylhet hit them on the highway, leaving Nadim dead on the spot and Kachmala critically injured. Later, the injured was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. In Gopalganj, a university student was killed as a truck hit his motorcycle in the morning.
