Eid ul-Fitr on Saturday

Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims which also marks the end of Ramadan fasting, will be celebrated in the country on Saturday as the Shawwal moon has been spotted in the night sky.

The national moon sighting committee made the decision at a meeting at the Islamic Foundation this evening after reviewing information of the Shawwal moon sighting.

Earlier, the committee sat around 7:30pm to fix the date of Eid ul-Fitr.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman, also chairman of the National Moon Sighting Committee, presided over the meeting at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque complex in the city.

Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Middle East and Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Most of the Arab, European, American and Canadian Muslims is celebrating the eid on Friday.

Besides, the people of Bhola, Laksmipur, Chandpur, Barisal and Patuakhali districts celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday in line with the “schedule of Saudi Arabia”.

All preparations for holding eid congregations and celebrations have been completed all over the country, including Dhaka and Sholakia in Kishoreganj.

The largest eid congregation will be held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district.

Thousands of Muslims will offer prayers there seeking divine blessings.

In the capital, the main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah near the High Court at 8:30am.
