7-year-old boy beaten to death, uncle held

A seven-year-old boy has been beaten to death allegedly by his uncle in the port city’s Chandgaon area.

The deceased is Tikon Dey, son of Basu Dey, of Rangunia upazila in Chittagong.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Imam Hossain of Changaon police station said: “Police arrested victim's maternal uncle Sujon Dash, 28, a staff member of Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC), immediately after the incident.”

Quoting family members, the SI said: “Tikon and his mother Sumi Dey, an RMG worker, stay with his uncle Sujon and his wife at their government quarter of the BFIDC.

“Tikon went outside on Saturday morning without his aunt's permission. Later, Sujon found him in the evening after a frantic effort and canned him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.”

“Following the incident, Sumi locked in an altercation with Sujon on Sunday morning. At one stage of argument, Sujon hit the boy’s head on the wall, leaving him dead on the spot around 12:30pm,” added the SI.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent in Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy.
