Two police officials in the city were suspended from their duties yesterday for alleged involvement in extortion.
Insiders said Sub-Inspector Abdul Baten and Assistant Sub-Inspector Imrul Kayes had been taken off duty for being involved in the extortion of hawkers on the footpaths of the Mirpur 1 neighbourhood.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) Muntasirul Alam said the two men had broken discipline in the organisation, and had been attached temporarily to the Mirpur deputy commissioner’s office.
Officer-in-Charge of Shah Ali police station AKM Shahin Mondol said Md Kaiumuzzaman Khan, deputy commissioner of police (Mirpur zone), suspended the two men yesterday afternoon and attached them to the DC office.
