The 26the World Population Day-2015, with the theme ‘Vulnerable Population in Emergencies’ was observed yesterday across the country in a befitting manner.
Our Narsingdi correspondent reports: In observance of the day, Department of Family Planning organized a large colorful rally in the town.
The rally led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriaya Begum was brought out from Deputy Commissioner Office premises and terminated at Sadar Upazila Parishad compound after parading through the main roads.
Later, a discussion meeting with Deputy Director, Department of Family Planning Anwar Hossain in the chair was held at Sadar Upazila Parishad hall room with the theme ‘Vulnerable Population in Emergencies’.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Suriaya Begum was chief guest while Health and Family Planning officer Dr Shofiqurl Islam were special guests.
Assistant Director of Family Planning Dr Obaidul Kabir presented the welcome speech.
The discussion was also addressed, among others, by Dr Abul Kalam Khan, Dr Mijanur Rahman and NGO representative Monir Hossain.
The chief guest said population control and women development are important for the country’s advancement. She said the government is committed to development of women and children and has already achieved success in this regard.
In Chittagong, to mark the day, different government and non-government organizations chalked out elaborate programmes, our correspondent said.
On the occasion, a discussion meeting was held at local circuit house auditorium in the port city under the auspices of Family Planning (FP) Chittagong Division with the cooperation of Non-Government Organization (NGOs).
Newly elected city Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin attended the meeting as chief guest while Nrurul Alam, divisional Director, Family Planning, Chittagong presided.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mezbauddin, Chittagong Division Director (Health) Dr Ala Uddin Mazumdar, Deputy Director (Health), Chittagong Division Dr Adhir Ranzon Das, Civil Surgeon of Chittagong Dr Sharfaraj Khan Babul, different NGO representatives, among others, addressed the function as special guests.
The speakers at the function called for raising public awareness and ensuring active participation of both genders for controlling the population growth rate of the country.
They also urged the NGOs to extend fruitful cooperation for implementing the government programmes aimed to control population.
Earlier, a colorful rally was brought out from Chittagong Press Club premises at 9 am today and ended at Chittagong circuit house after parading through different important city streets.
People from all walks of life including government officials, students, teachers, NGO activists took part in the rally carrying banners and festoons.
According to our Faridpur correspondent’s report: In observance of the day, a colourful rally was brought out in the town in the morning.
Family planning workers, NGO people and officials participated in the rally, which paraded the main streets holding placards and festoons depicting the slogans of planned family for better future.
The rally was followed by a discussion meeting in the conference room of the deputy commissioner. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Director of Family Planning Dr. Khalilur Rahman while ADC (Gen) Md. Abdur Rshid was the chief guest. Additional Police Super AZM Mostafizur Rahman was the special guest.
At the end of discussion, some good performers in family planning activities were awarded certificates.
The day was also observed in many other districts including Khulna, Barisal, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur.
