Bangladesh Inland Water Transport (BIWTA) of the district has decided that it will not allow overloaded vessels on the waterway in the days of upcoming Eid ul-Fitr.
The BIWTA came up with the demand yesterday noon in a meeting at conference room of Barisal Port building with the representatives of launch owners, workers’ associations and law enforcing agencies.
The meeting was called for nsuring safety for the Eid special vessels and passengers.
Abul Bashar Majumdar, BIWTA deputy director for river safety and traffic, presided over the programme attended among others by Shahjal Hauque, deputy director, M. Mustafizur Rahman, port officer of BIWTA, Akkas Hossain, Abdur Rahim, and leaders of launch owners’ association, officials of launch labour association, shipping directorate and law enforcing agencies.
On the other hand, a coordination meeting called by district administration for ensuring safety of passengers was held on the day at the room with Deputy Commissioner Md Sayfuzzaman in the chair.
The meeting was addressed among others by Murad Ahmed, journalist and SM Iqbal, Mohiuddin Manik Bir Protik.
