Dhaka range police Deputy Inspector General Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman has advised bus owners and transport workers to collect their tolls from the long-haul buses at the stations in order to avoid traffic congestion.
Speaking at a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association and Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation at Dhaka range police office yesterday, the DIG said: “Collect your tolls after the buses enter the stations or before they leave. Stopping the buses on the road for toll blocks traffic movement unnecessarily.”
He also advised to collect the tolls on a weekly or a monthly basis, or – even better – directly deposit the money to a bank account.
He also warned of strict action against those who tried to extort vehicles on highways. “Police will not tolerate extortion in the streets. Even a police member or a member of these associations will be arrested if found doing so.”
