10 detectives assigned to probe cocaine haul
A 10-member probe committee of detectives has been formed to investigate into the incident of smuggling of liquid cocaine in sunflower oil drums at Chittagong Port.
The new probe body, headed by Detective Branch of Police Deputy Commissioner Kushum Dewan, was formed on Saturday, five days after the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation formed another four-member probe body over the cocaine haul.
CJ: Judiciary can be subjected to fair criticism
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has said like any other public institutions, the judiciary can be subjected to fair criticism if and when occasion demands.
The most senior judge of the Appellate Division further said: “But if the criticism is illegitimate and responsible, it may leave to immeasurable harm to the institution of the judiciary.”
Man, 3 sons hacked to death
Four members of a family have been hacked to death over land dispute at Badhati village under Nandail upazila in Mymensingh.
The deceased are Belal Hossain, 50, his sons Farid, 25, Himel, 14, and Pavel, 10.
'Bangladesh will soon get permanent middle-income status'
Awami League Lawmaker Kazi Nabil Ahmed has said Bangladesh would soon achieve the permanent middle-income status.
He said: “World Bank has acknowledged Bangladesh as a lower-middle-income country. We will soon be recognised as a permanent middle-income country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

France swiftly rejected on Friday a request for asylum by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
The founder of the transparency website had appealed directly to President Francois Hollande, days after Wikileaks published documents showing the United States had spied on successive French leaders, including Hollande himself.
IS affiliate in Egypt claims rocket attack on Israel
A group affiliated with Islamic State has said it fired three rockets into Israel from Egypt's Sinai peninsula.
The affiliate, which calls itself Sinai Province, said it had acted in retaliation for what it says is Israeli support for the Egyptian army.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh have detained a person with 10 gold bars from Kakdanga border area in Satkhira.
Johirul Islam was detained around 2pm Friday. He is the son of Abu Taher Ali of Kakdanga village and a cook by profession.
