‘OC can free a juvenile accused’

The NHRC chairman came up with the statement at a press briefing after visiting the Juvenile Correction Centre in Gazipur yesterday.
He said: “A minor should not be detained at the correction centre without any specific allegations.”
If a child is a witness of any case, there may be threat of his life. In this situation, he/she should be kept at the centre with proper his security.
He brought some allegations against the centre, including torture and harassment to the grown up young girl and mismanagement.
The NHRC chairman asked the centre authorities not to go against security and privacy law.
Among others, Magistrate Raihanul Islam, UNO Ashrafuddin and the Juvenile Correction Centre’s Superintendent Abul Fazal Amanullah were present on the occasion.
