The cabinet committee on public purchase yesterday approved the proposal of digging five new wells in different gas fields for improving supply capacity at a cost of Tk750.58 crore.
The decision came at a meeting at the Secretariat, with Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in the chair.
“Russian company Gazprom will dig the new wells,” Mostafizur Rahman, additional secretary of the cabinet division, told reporters after the meeting.
He said the wells that would be dug are Flikail 4, Bakhrabad 10 and Rashidpur 9, 10 and 11. “Infrastructures needed to dig the wells will cost Tk22.6 crore.”
The committee also approved 11 other proposals, including construction of a rail bridge over the Rupsha River in Khulna.
“The rail bridge will cost an estimated Tk1000.23 crore. It is part of the Khulna-Mongla port rail line project and will be constructed by Indian firm Larsen and Toubro Limited,” said Mostafizur.
“Besides, Indian firm Balaji Railroad Systems Ltd has been appointed as a consultant for the Kulaura-Shahbazpur railway section rehabilitation project at a cost of Tk23.68 crore. The project will be finished in 2019.”
