Nahid for separate commission to appoint teachers

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the secondary education sector has 53% girl students and 47% boy students while the percentage is just the reverse in the higher secondary education sector.

The government has a plan to form a separate commission like public service commission to bring transparency and accountability in appointing teachers in private educational institutions, the minister told parliament.

Responding to a question, the minister said already a seven-member committee was formed to scrutinise the proposal of separate commission.

“To appoint more meritorious teachers, the government is considering actively to form a separate commission like public service commission.”

Nahid also said currently there are exam systems to appoint teachers in private educational institutions.

Responding to another query, the minister also said they were working to formulate a specific policy for inclusion of educational institutions in Monthly Payment Order (MPO).

“Inclusion of educational institutions in the MPO is a continuous process. In the last tenure, we included 1624 institutions in the MPO.”

Responding to another query, Nahid said some 24 educational institutions were included in MPO due to various cases and in the purview of Secondary Education Sector Investment Programme.
