A fighter aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) has crashed in the Bay of Bengal in Patenga of Chittagong.
Wing Commander Nur-E-Alam, manager of Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong, confirmed this to the Dhaka Tribune.
Flight Lieutenant Tahmid, the pilot of BAF fighter aircraft F7, went missing after the crash, said the official.
Tahmid flew with the aircraft from Shah Amanat International Airport at 10:30am on Monday, he said.
The airport lost contact with the aircraft at 11:10am which later crashed in the Bay of Bengal in Patenga around 11:30am, said Nur.
Air Force, Navy, Coastguard and Chittagong Port authorities are conducting a joint rescue operation, he added.
Captain Shahidul Islam, zonal commander of Coastguard east zone, told the Dhaka Tribune: "We are assuming that the aircraft crashed at 6 nautical miles from Potenga sea beach."
He said the rescue team found some parts of the aircraft floating in the sea.
