BCL man beats up college girl for rejecting love proposal

A female student of Barisal Government Brojo Mohun College has been beaten up allegedly by a Bangladesh Chattra League man for rejecting his love proposal.

Lanoni Akter, a student of the English department at the college, was beaten up by her classmate Abdur Rahim on Thursday afternoon.

College Principal Prof Fazlul Huque said: “A probe committee has been asked to investigate the matter and submit a report within the next seven working days.”

He said action will be taken against the accused after the college authority receives the probe report.

Witnesses said the English Department's second-year student Abdur had proposed to his classmate Lanoni and had been disturbing her for months. Abdur is a leader of the BCL's college unit.

Laboni rejected his proposal several times but Abdur continued his disturbing activities which forced her to change her mobile phone number.

On Wednesday, Abdur asked their classmate Aporna Chakraborty to give him Laboni's new contact number, but Aporna refused to do so. Aporna also claimed that she has no contact with Laboni.

They said Abdur blocked Laboni and Aporna's way when they came to the college to appear for an examination on Thursday afternoon and again proposed to Laboni but she refused again.

Later, he started beating up Laboni and Aporna who came to her rescue.

Hearing their hue and cry, students went to the spot and rescued the victims.

The victims submitted a written complaint to the college principal through the departmental head, demanding justice and their security.
