UK firm likely to be management consultant for online VAT system

Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase is going to approve a UK-based firm’s proposal of project management consultancy to introduce online the value added tax system in Bangladesh, official sources said.

Five foreign firms participated in the tender process, which include KPMG Advisory Services Private Limited, Ecory’s UK Ltd, Price Water House Coopers Pvt, Deloittle Touche Tohmatsu and Apex Consulting.

The tender evaluation committee evaluated the proposals of five firms and Ecorys UK Ltd secured first position getting the highest mark.

The cost of appointing the UK firm as project management consultant will be Tk38.98 crore.

The Internal Resources Division recently sent the proposal of Ecorys UK Ltd to the Cabinet Division to place it before the cabinet body’s meeting today.

According to the proposal, a project management consultant will be appointed at a cost of Tk551.58 crore to introduce online Vat payment system by 2018, which is aimed at attracting taxpayers and checking tax evasion.

Of the amount, a total of Tk101.84 crore will come from the government exchequer and the remaining cost will be borne by the World Bank.

The project management consultant firm will provide all kinds of consultant facilities to introduce the online Vat system.

After completing the project, the NBR will achieve the capacity to run the system as a commercial off-the-shelf vendor.
