The High Court has issued a rule upon the government asking why eight clauses of the guidelines by the education ministry on college admission guideline should not be declared “without lawful jurisdiction.”
An HC bench comprising of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam issued the ruling Monday, responding to a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Younus Ali Akhand.
Secretary for Education has been asked to answer the ruling by four weeks.
On Wednesday Younus Ali filed the writ, seeking the HC stay on the eight points of the ministry guideline.
It also sought HC ruling over the college admission guidelines on admitting students based on their secondary-level exam scores.
Earlier on June 8, the HC stayed the education ministry's policy on admitting students based on their SSC scores for the three Dhaka colleges.
A High Court bench comprising of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the stay for six months, responding to the writ petitions filed by the principals of these three colleges.
The HC bench also issued a ruling asking why the education ministry's policy regarding the issue should not be called unauthorised.
Later on June 10, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court stay.
Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, passed “no order” on a petition filed by the education ministry, challenging the HC order.
