An accused in a case filed for attacking police has died at Comilla Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment in police custody.
The deceased is Sabir Khandker, 38, of the city's Sujanagar area.
Jailer Mojibur Rahman of Comilla Central Jail said: “Sabir complained of chest pain on Monday morning. He was admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment at 8am.”
Family members claimed that he died due to police torture and lack of proper treatment.
Sabir's sister Shirin told the Dhaka Tribune: “Police raided Sujanagar area on April 3 for arresting the accused of a murder case. The supporters of the accused locked into a clash with the law enforcers, injuring eight policemen.
“Police detained 10 people, including my brother despite repeated denial of his involvement.”
However, Kotwali Model police station OC Khorshed Alam denied the allegations of torture.
