A woman has hacked her drug addict son to death out of frustration in the district's Naria upazila.
The deceased is Jakir Hossain, 26, of Nalta village under the upazila.
Locals said Jakir used to torture his mother Saleha Begum for money to buy drugs.
On Saturday night, he asked his mother to manage Tk250,000 by Sunday as he wanted to buy a new bike for him.
He also threatened to kill Saleha if she fails to collect the money, claimed locals.
Naria police station OC Ekram Ali said: “Out of frustration, Saleha hacked her son to death on Sunday morning while he was sleeping. Later, she locked the room and went outside.
“Locals later informed police after they found Saleha behaving abnormally. Acting on information, police broke open the doors of the room and recovered Jakir's body on Sunday night.”
Saleha has been arrested, said the police.
