Two-day zakat fair begins

With the theme ‘Making a difference with Zakat’, a two-day long zakat fair began yesterday at the National Shooting Sports Federation Complex in the capital.

Minister of Planning AHM Mostafa Kamal inaugurated the fair which is being held for the third time.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the minister urged the wealthy Muslims of the country to come forward with their Zakat and Awqaf fund for poverty alleviation.

“Zakat can be effectively used to support various ongoing programmes of the government to eradicate poverty,” he said.

AHM Mostafa Kamal later handed over scholarships to Zakat worthy 141 students of various public universities of Dhaka. He also distributed 10 laptops to medical students. 

The fair is organised by the Centre for Zakat Management, Exim Bank, Islamic Relief UK and Muslim Aid Bangladesh. It will remain open from 10am to 8pm on June 12 and 13.
