BEZA Executive Board Secretary Md Aiub and Omera CEO Tipu Sultan signed the MoU on behalf their respective organisations at the BEZA conference room in Dhaka yesterday.
The deal was aimed at developing “a planned industrial zone and create more employment opportunities” in the country.
According to the MoU, Omera Petroleum Limited will invest Tk13,000 crore to implement the project and employ 5,000 people, said Tipu Sultan.
Under the MoU, the Omera will lease 200 acres of land to set up a LPG Import Terminal and Reforming Process Unit.
BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury, who was present during the signing as the chief guest, said the total area of the zone would be 30,000 acres and the zone would have modern facilities.
He said the deal had been signed as part of the government's initiative to build industries in Mirsarai in a planned way involving both local and foreign companies.
Earlier in February, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 10 government and private economic zones including Mirsarai for the development and creation of jobs.
The zones are expected to employ about 1m people.
