The government will recruit an additional 50,694 police personnel, including 694 naval police, within the shortest possible time, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan has said.
The minister said this to parliament while replying to a question from opposition bench member Rahim Ullah of Feni 3 during the question-and-answer session, reports BSS.
"The ratio between police personnel and the population in the country is not sufficient. So the country needs more manpower in the police department to ensure better services to the citizens," he said.
The minister, replying to another query from treasury bench member Lutfa Taher, said members of the police are also showing outstanding performance in the UN peacekeeping missions.
A total of 1,239 policemen are serving with the peacekeeping missions in different countries, he informed the House.
