2 killed in Jessore

A school boy and a vendor have been killed in separate incidents in Jessore.

On Tuesday morning, police recovered the body of Hirak Sarkar, 13, from a fish farm at Sujatpur village in Monirampur upazila of the district.

Hirak was an eighth-grader at Monirampur Moshiyahati High School and the son of Sanjay Sarkar of Sujatpur village.

Hirak went out with his friends, Debu and Raju, after returning home from school on Monday evening, said his uncle Swapan Kumar Sarkar.

"Since then, he was missing."

As Monirampur police was informed about the matter on Tuesday morning, they arrested Debu.

According to Debu's confession, police recovered Hirak's body from the fish farm.

OC Khabiruddin of Monirampur police said the arrested Debu confessed to the killing.

Debu and Raju killed Hirak by strangling him with a cotton towel, wrapping it around his neck, the police official added.

After the murder, they dumped the body into a pond.

After recovery, Hirak's body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy.

On the other hand, in the village of Sadar upazila, Liton Hossain Mollah, 27, was beaten to death with a cricket bat by neighbours.

“Neighbours beat to death a vendor, Liton, of Basundiya Jayanti village under Sadar Upazila on Monday night following a prior enmity, the wife of the deceased claimed.

Liton was the son of Korban Sheikh of the village.

The police arrested a man named Shahadat Hossain in this connection.

OC Akkas of Sadar police said: “Shahadat and his son Ramzan Ali beat him with a cricket bat around 1:30am.”

Liton's shop is at 30 gauge distance from Shahadat's house.

However, the people in the area nabbed Shahadat and handed him over to the police.

Police recovered a bloodied cricket bat and bamboo stick from the spot.

Quoting his wife, police said the killing took place over a previous enmity.

He was sleeping at the bench in front of his shop when Shahadat and Ramzan killed him, said the Kotwali OC.
