At least five people were killed in road accidents in Bagerhat and Chapainawabganj districts yesterday.
Our Bagerhat correspondent reports: Two people, including a college girl, were killed and four others injured when a bus hit an engine-run rickshaw van and a motorcycle in Bishwa Road Mor area on the Khulna-Mawa Highway in Fakirhat upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Monalisa Khatun,18, a second year student of Fakirhat Kazi Ajhar Ali College and daughter of Hakim Sarder, a resident of Dumuria village and Obaidul Islam,26, son of
Shahid Sheikh, a resident of Kaligachhi village in Chitalmari upazila of the district.
Bagerhat Katakhali Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Abdul Mannan Faraji said a Khulna-bound bus from Chitalmari first hit a motorcycle in the area as the bus driver lost control over the steering around9:15 am, leaving the biker seriously injured.
Then the bus hit a rickshaw van in the area, leaving five passengers of the van critically injured.
Monalisa and Obaidul died on way to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex.
Of the four injured, two were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
In Chapainawabganj, Three motorcyclists were killed as a truck crashed into a motorbike carrying them in Amnura Kendul area of Sadar upazila at noon, said our correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Rafiq, 30, son of Montaz Ali, Nayan, 42, son of Shafiqul Islam of the village and Nure Alam Siddique, son of Chuniyapara village of Tanore upazila in Rajshahi district.
SI Jahangir Alam of Sadar police station said the accident took place when the truck hit the motorcycle on the Amnura-Godagari Road in the area, leaving Nure Alam and Faruk dead on the spot and Nayan critically injured.
Nayan was rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
