The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reduced the specific duty from Tk5000 to Tk3000 on the import of television under baggage rules.
The tax authority on Thursday issued a gazette notification with an immediate effect to reduce rates for all the existing six slabs in importing television like Plasma, LCD, TFT and LED and other similar categories through Passenger (non-tourist) Baggage (Import) Rules 2012.
According to the order, inbound passengers have to pay Tk10,000 instead of the existing Tk15,000 for a television sized in between 22-inch and 29-inch, while it is Tk15,000 from the existing Tk20,000 for a television sized in between 30-inch and 36-inch.
For bringing a television sized in between 37-inch and 42-inch, the rate is set at Tk20, 000 from the existing Tk30,000, while it is made Tk30, 000 from the existing Tk50,000 for import of a television sized in between 43-inch and 46-inch.
Passengers have to pay Tk50, 000 from the existing rate of Tk70, 000 for import of a television sized in between 47-inch and 52-inch while the rate is fixed at Tk70, 000 from the existing Tk1 lakh for import of a television sized over 53-inch.
