Despite pledges from political high ups that the country would not face any load shedding during the current summer, most people of Narsingdi have to remain without electricity almost the entire day.
People living in proper areas such as sadar upazila are getting uninterrupted power supply, but who are living in remote areas have to go through 16-hour load shedding in a day much to create frustration among common people.
A number of small industries are remained shutdown and production in these industrial units has decreased to one-fourth during the last month due to erratic supply of electricity.
Most of small factories are being forced to cancel orders due to their failure in completion of work on time.
Residents of Raipura, Belabo and Shibpur are the worst suffers of the disrupted power supply. Besides, customers who are getting power supply under Narsingdi Pally Bidyut Office 2 said eduction of HSC candidates are badly hampering.
Despite several attempts, this correspondent could contact with officials of Pally Bidyut Office 2 as their phones were switched off.
Abu Bakar Siddiqu, a resident of Baroicha upazila under Belabo upazila, told the Dhaka Tribune that their activities, children’s education were being hampered.
“After a storm, the locality remains without power for two or three days since many electric poles are uprooted and Bidyut office does not take measure to install the poles immediately.”
SH Safiq, a poultry businessman, said Belabo, Raipura and Shibpura upazilas were known as poultry zone, but people involved in the sector were suffering hardship immensely for the disrupted power supply.
Yusuf Mia, a resident of Hashimpur, Raipura upazila, said: “We do not get electricity even eight hours in a day, we have heard that there are no deficiency of electricity in the country, so why we are facing load shedding?”
Deputy General Manager of Palli Bidyut office 2 said there were loadsheding in the district as there were no difference of electricity.
“The demand of total electricity in the district is 108MW and we are getting 108MW from national grid, so there is no chance of load shedding.”
He also he would look into the matter wheather there was loadshedding or not.
