The BBC tries to lure ex-“Top Gear” hosts back

It has been claimed, Richard Hammond and James May have been offered a combined pay package of $7.1m to continue to host Top Gear for two or three more series.

According to the Daily Mail, the reported offer would make Hammond and May two of the BBC’s highest-paid personalities and would put their compensation on par with that of Jeremy Clarkson’s last contract.

The proposed new incarnation of “Top Gear” would likely feature Hammond and May along with a rotating lineup of guest hosts.

Retaining May and Hammond on the show alongside a guest presenter would enable the programme to return with its format intact.

Clarkson could then return to the show on a future series, taking his old job back from the guest presenters.
