Panthapath southern lane opens to traffic

The authorities concerned has withdrawn the restriction of vehicular movement on the southern lane of Panthapath, four days after the land subsidence in front of Hotel Sundarban.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon formally opened the lane to traffic around 11am Sunday.

DSCC Chief Engineer Habibur Rahman said the lane is primarily out of risk.

Around 7:30am on Wednesday, heavy rain caused a 15-feet alley between the construction site and the Hotel Sundarban to subside into the excavation hole. In no time, a portion of the Bir Uttam CR Dutta Road also subsided into the construction site taking along several trees, electricity poles, tea stalls and rickshaw vans.

Following the land subsidence, vehicular movement on three lanes near the spot were restricted.
