SARF 2015: Hasina discusses political economy of food

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said that ensuring food for all is a complicated task and is not possible for an individual country to achieve on its own - rather a joint effort is urgently needed for that purpose.

"Ensuring food for all is a complex task. A host of factors like poverty, flawed economic and distribution system, food and climate change influence the availability of food," said Hasina, in her address to the three-day South Asia Right to Food (SARF) Conference 2015 at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.

She said that food security does not depend only on production of food grains. "The quantity of food the earth now produces is more than enough to feed the entire population.
